During a skull reading, the phrenologist would run his fingers and palms over a person’s head, carefully feeling for bumps and concavities. Occasionally a tape measure or calipers were also used to get precise measurements. These shapes would then be compared to a three-dimensional head (like the one shown above) or a chart to determine which of the approximately 35 organs were responsible for an individual’s aptitudes and characteristics.

Phrenology (from Greek: φρήν, phrēn, “mind”; and λόγος, logos, “knowledge”) , once considered a science, by which the personality traits of a person were determined by “reading” bumps and fissures in the skull. Developed by German physician Franz Joseph Gall around 1800, the discipline was very popular in the 19th century. In 1843, François Magendie referred to phrenology as “a pseudo-science of the present day. Phrenological thinking was, however, influential in 19th-century psychiatry and modern neuroscience.

Phrenology Head is designed on the concept that the brain is the organ of the mind, and that certain brain areas have localized, specific functions or modules . Phrenologists believed that the mind has a set of different mental faculties, with each particular faculty represented in a different area of the brain. These areas were said to be proportional to a person’s propensities, and the importance of the given mental faculty. It was believed that the cranial bone conformed in order to accommodate the different sizes of these particular areas of the brain in different individuals, so that a person’s capacity for a given personality trait could be determined simply by measuring the area of the skull that overlies the corresponding area of the brain.

Phrenology , which focuses on personality and character, should be distinguished from craniometry, which is the study of skull size, weight and shape, and physiognomy, the study of facial features. However, these disciplines have claimed the ability to predict personality traits or intelligence.

Captain Baba Harbhajan Singh. Sikkim. His spirit, literally, still patrols the border.

Every year, an Indian Army captain takes annual leave to meet his family. He travels back to his village. A berth on a train is reserved in his name and two orderlies accompany him on the journey back to his village from the Sikkim border with China.

At Jalandhar, an Army vehicle receives him every year, He stays at 23 Punjab Gurdwara, for a night and then travels further to his home, 25 km. beyond.

When his annual leave is over, he travels back in the same manner. A vehicle with 4 NISHAN SAHIBS is sent to his home in Kuka village, to pick him up, A quarter is set aside for him, where his orderlies prepares his bed, and shines his shoes, every day a new pair of uniform is ironed for him. Every morning the bed is crumpled, and every evening the shoes are muddy and the uniform is creased and crumpled. He petrols a particular stretch of the border and when he goes on leave, additional troops have to be deployed which are pulled back when he returns on November 15.

You may think, what is new in this article. HOLD YOUR BREATH. On October 4, 1968, while escorting a mule column from Takula to Ponchkula and became the first ever casualty of the 23 Punjab. He slipped and fell into a nullah, his body was swept 2 km downstream and was given farewell with full army honors. He is dead but his soul is still very much there. Baba Harbhajan Singh warns the dangerous activities on the border through the dreams of fellow army men. Even Chinese army men believe to have seen a human figure doing patrolling in the night across the border. Baba Harbhajan Singh is today honoured the rank of Honorary Captain and his samadhi reconstructed at the junction of Kupup Gnathang road and the pathway leading to Menmoichu Lake as apart of the watershed memorial complex.

Over the years the shrine of Baba Harbhajan has obtain huge devote across all frontiers. Baba is respected and worshiped by every army men in Sikkim. They believe Baba would forecast accident in the valley much ahead of the happening.

A Commanding Officer of the Army says “It is a question of faith. When troops go into battle it is only faith that carries them forward. When I send a vehicle to receive him, I am after all honouring a soldier of my unit who died doing his duty.

China unhappy over the Air base, reports Indrani Baghchi in TNN

China has “expressed unhappiness” to India about the reopening of its old Ladakh airbase on the India-China border. This protest, made after India operationalized the base on Saturday, has been informally transmitted through officials.

It also comes after China’s reported claim to a small area on the Sikkim border that put the Indian government in a spot because this was a part of the border that was supposedly no longer a contentious issue. While Beijing remained silent, the foreign ministry weakly suggested it was “minor and local”. Sources said the actions would be attributed to the personal behaviour of the Chinese commander in the area.

However, India’s decision to reopen the 4,960-metre Daulatbeg Oldi airbase in Ladakh after 43 years apparently has spoken louder than words. The base gives India coverage over Aksai Chin as well as the Karakoram highway, which connects China with Pakistan. India now plans to open two other airbases in Chushul and Fukche in eastern Ladakh, also on the Chinese border.
