Standard Taylor Diagnostic Reflex Hammer

A reflex hammer is a medical instrument used by physicians to test deep tendon reflexes. Testing for reflexes is an important part of the neurological physical examination in order to detect abnormalities in the central or peripheral nervous system.

Reflex hammers can also be used for chest percussion.

The strength of a reflex is used to gauge central and peripheral nervous system disorders, with the former resulting in hyperreflexia, or exaggerated reflexes, and the latter resulting in hyporeflexia or diminished reflexes. However, the strength of the stimulus used to extract the reflex also affects the magnitude of the reflex. Attempts have been made to determine the force required to elicit a reflex, but vary depending on the hammer used, and are difficult to quantify.

The Taylor hammer is usually held at the end by the physician, and the entire device is swung in an arc-like motion onto the tendon in question. The Queen Square and Babinski hammers are usually held perpendicular to the tendon in question, and are passively swung with gravity assistance onto the tendon.

The Jendrassik maneuver, which entails interlocking of flexed fingers to distract a patient, can also be used to accentuate reflexes. In cases of hyperreflexia, the physician may place his finger on top of the tendon, and tap the finger with the hammer. Sometimes a reflex hammer may not be necessary to elicit hyperreflexia, with finger tapping over the tendon being sufficient as a stimulus.

After Mumbai, Bhiwandi, Malegaon, Faisabad, Lucknow, Jaipur, Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Surat, Not a single person convicted. Even the person who is given death sentence by the laws of the land, is not being hanged. I dare say that we have lost the battle and the terrorists have already won. Let us face the truth. We have accepted terrorism as part and parcel of our daily life. We have become numb. We are the softest target, sitting duck in India and they make us suffer because our government has allowed them to. Our government has scrapped POTA, the dreaded act which kept them at bay.

The killings have become routine, so the statements of Prime Minister and the President of the ruling party. They condemn it, They salute people for maintaining communal harmony, they announce few lac of rupees to the dead and half of it to the injured and then…we wait for the another blasts to happen, and same stories are repeated.

We measure the blasts by the damage, and refuse to see it as act of terrorism.The Bangalore blasts, though 8 bombs went off, only 1 person was killed. our media does not treat this as important story as only 1 person was killed.

…and a person of ex minister stature, Ms. Sushma Swaraj, stoops so low that she has the audacity to link the blasts to the corruption charges leveled against the ruling party in the Lok Sabha No confidence motion.

No. We can not forget this, but we tend to and continue with our daily routine. Our lives have no value in India. How many persons are held till date in all those blasts listed above? and how many of them are convicted?

Why name only SIMI or Indian Mujaheedin or HUJI or LET or Taliban or Pakistan? Who are they? What is their ideology?

Media, has forgotten Godhra, but they still tend to cling to Post Godhra, Media - will forget this, but if, God forbid, something happens post - blasts, they will cry foul. they will go to any length to take on the CM of Gujarat, who has many names given to him by media, besides his original name.

…a thought, Where is our friend Mr. Karat and company? Why do they not condemn the blasts.

…and terrorists, Why do you kill innocents? A child was killed in Ahmedabad who was not even born when Post-Godhra riots took place in Gujarat. and you talk about taking revenge against those who had initiated riots? What crime that child had committed. What crime that Doctor and his Wife who lost their lives when you bombed the hospital,committed? He was running to treat an injured Muslim when he was killed. and you….. Okay you have won, and We have lost our war against you. India has lost. We can not win the battle against the terrorism unless…POTA is re-enacted, and our government will never do it. so we have lost. We are not safe in our own country.
